Wade and his wife took the plunge. They bought a 5,000-square-foot home. It was large and had several bedrooms and bathrooms, but it needed more.
Not only that, but they already had an exact plan for the specifics of the facility.
“My wife and I purchased a 5,000+ square foot single-story luxury home that we wanted to convert into a premier residential assisted living facility for seniors living with dementia.”
Their vision included a HUGE remodel.
“To give proper care, we needed to convert the home from a five-bedroom/four-bathroom into an eight-bedroom/nine-bathroom so that each of the eight residents could have their own private bedroom and bathroom.”
Wade and his wife wanted very specific details included in the remodel. They were looking to transform this luxury home into a safe and inviting modern place for those aging with dementia.
Doing so would be a massive undertaking.
“We also wanted to include specific design elements to make the home bespoke for memory care, such as Dutch doors for all bedrooms, ADA-style bathrooms with roll-in showers and grab bars, widened doorways, and paint schemes to help with wayfinding and toileting.”

“This was not the typical renovation project, so we needed to find a good partner who was willing to think outside the box, really take the time to educate themselves on evidence-based design for dementia, and then competently execute the work.”
